John– (1st Week of November) - 2015       Rapides Parish

  Alcohol Addiction

My meeting with John had immediate results.  While visiting with my friend John and his    wife to share my vision about  launching my new ministry, John’s wife noticed that I  minister to those who have addictions.  I had no idea that John had recently attended a  rehab to help him overcome the addiction of alcohol and to no real success was his visit to  the rehab.   After John and I spent one hour in prayer in his home I then left.  As I was  walking to my car John said, “Whit, I don’t know what you did but it still feels like your hand  is sitting on my head” I called John back a week later to the day and I discovered this:    John said that his desire to drink alcohol went fully away. He had numerous offers from  fellow hunter to drink alcohol the weekend immediately following our time together while  working on his Duck Blind.  He also made a comment to me to remind me of his statement  of my hand on his hand while walking me to my car.  John said he continued to feel that  hand imprint on his head for 2 full days following our prayer time.  I personally felt this was  a  visitation from
 the Lord!!!

Two Homosexual Men Partners     (1st week of November 2015)

My last ministry opportunity was a meeting with a Rayville
Hospital Nurses’ brother.  The  nurse requested I minister to her brother who has dealt with mental illness for years. The  nurse was able to arrange a meeting for me to meet with this brother who brought along  with Homosexual partner to meet with me for prayer and to hear my story of how I was able  to minister to my daughter.  I met these two men in a vacant Sunday School Class at  Mangham Baptist Church last Wednesday during office hours and both were receptive to  what I shared with them as well as receptive to my praying with them.  The brother told his  sister that he would be willing to meet with me again in the near future.

Kat          Ouachita Parish        ACCOMPANIED HER TO SEMINAR

Ms. Kat was contemplating suicide. She was a client at Centric Credit Union. One of the  employees at Centric contacted me out of concern for Ms. Kat. The Centric employee was  concerned that Ms. Kat may harm herself so she asked me to check on Ms. Kat.  When I  called Ms. Kat she immediately began weeping. She said,“You don’t realize just how timely  your call was.  I was in a really dark place and was about to do something I would regret.”
I contacted Mike Clark and Bubba Redding to assist me on a house visit to pray with Ms.  Kat. God powerfully touched Ms. Kat; she had been experiencing multiple health issues  and back pain.  She had recently lost a patient to suicide as a Hospice Nurse.  She then  was not able to work any longer for Hospice due to her poor health and wounds from a  failed marriage, deceased parents, financial shortage, and strained relationship with her  wayward son. Mike Clark paid Ms. Kat’s conference fee to attend Dr. Henry Malone’s  Freedom and Fullness Seminar. Ms. Kat has made huge strides.  I was able to help her find  a new job as a Director of Nurses with a local Hospice agency and she has been doing  much better.  I continue to check on her at least on a monthly basis.

 1.  Roy              Ouachita Parish                 SESSION
Roy was depressed deeply. Had received a DWI and was drinking profusely.  His father  called me and two other pastors to please go by and check on his son.  I went the same  day that I  received this phone call.  I was employed by City of Faith at this time and met  with Roy in a public library that evening since I needed a quiet room to minister.  We met  for about 2 hours the first meeting.  Then the next meeting we met for 3 and 1 ½ half hours  at his home.  I prayed for him and for his home taking Roy through the Shadow Boxing  Ministry Session.  Roy has been alcohol free and has not been depressed since our  meeting and is now back on track walking in fellowship with the Lord.  I continue to meet  with Roy on a monthly basis  for prayer, support and accountability.

A Testimony by Mei Powers from last Mondsay

In a past testimony during our garage sale to raise funds for the Brazil trip, a Vietnam vet  came pulling an oxygen tank.  We had the opportunity to pray for him.  He was looking at a  guitar we had for sale that day.  Since we prayed for him, he wanted to sing a song for me.   He played the guitar and sang a beautiful Christian song.  Then I told him that I wanted to  sing a song for him in Vietnamese.  My husband played the guitar and I sang “How Great  Thou Art” in Vietnamese.  It was a very touching time.  Several weeks ago we shared this  testimony in greater detail but now we have some more to add to it.  When we were singing
 there were lots
of people there shopping at the garage sale witnessing what was
happening. One lady there came to my house recently to buy some
items we  had for sale and she told me how that morning really impacted her.  God used that moment  to encourage her because she was feeling down that day because her cancer came back.    She felt that the Lord had lead her to the garage sale to encourage her even though we  did not pray for her that day.  She was so touched by what happened that she went home  and shared with all her friends on Facebook how we ministered to the Vietnam Vet.  All her  friends were encouraged by what she had witnessed and commented that we all need to be  bold like that.  I prayed for her and gave her a word of encouragement.  When
you minister to others, sometimes people just watching get impacted too.

My name is Abby, and I would like to tell you a testimony that happened while doing        ministry training in Birmingham, Alabama. My group consisting of five people met one  family from New Hampshire, and we decided that we would have supper together. We left  our hotel and traveled to a downtown BBQ restaurant in search of food, but mainly anyone  we could share Jesus with.
After eating, we asked the manager of the restaurant if a group member of ours, Hannah,  could play her guitar and sing for the customers. He agreed and turned down the house  music for us. As she began to play, we began to pray for the Holy Spirit to be welcome  there and for open opportunities. After about that first song my eyes were immediately  drawn to a table consisting of three women. God was speaking and telling me to go the  table. Little did I know God was telling Julie, the mother of the other family, the same thing?  We were both fighting with God about doing this. Julie went to the table and I shortly  followed. Julie began telling the ladies that God had spoken and told her that someone at  this table needed prayer. One of the girls named Meagan began to cry and told us that her  dear friend Katie had been in a very horrific car wreck. Katie had been a coma for a week in  very critical condition. The doctors had to do emergency surgery on her brain because the  bleed in her brain was so severe it was going to kill her. They also told family and friends  they didn’t know when she would wake up and it was very possible she may never wake  up.  We gladly agreed to go to the hospital to pray over Katie. Before leaving the table, one  of the girls seemed to be very uneasy. God gave me a prophetic word and vision for her  life. I asked her name and as I began to share what God had showed me for her life, which  was Him wanted to use her with her voice and art from her hands to bring glory to Him, and  how much he loved her and wanted to make her successful in this. The girls started looking  at each other almost in disbelief saying, “Wow, she sings.” I said I know ha ha, but it’s also  with her hands and Meagan tells me she is a cosmetologist. I truly believe God poured out  His love and power over that young woman that night. We were able to pray with them and
 head out to the hospital.
So here I am in downtown Birmingham. I left my group and I am in this vehicle with this  family from New Hampshire I really don’t know at all. I just know that they are my brother  and sisters in Christ, and we are doing the works of God. We got lost a couple of times  trying to find our way, but we are constantly praying for people we are passing by on the  streets, in the elevators, and waiting rooms. We made our way to the ICU and the nurse is  telling us that it is not visitation hours and questioning why were we there if we weren’t  family. I knew God would provide a way. The nurse finally gives us 5 minutes in the room.  Hey, that’s all we needed! Entering into Katie’s room was very hard. She was in very bad  shape. Venation tubes, feeding tubes, IV’s everywhere, half of Katie’s head was shaved  and had staples going all the way across. She appeared to look nothing like the photo we  had seen of her earlier, but our faith in God was much greater than Katie’s injuries. We  surrounded her bed and began welcoming the Holy Spirit into the room. We started laying  our hands on Katie and demanding healing in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ! As we  proclaimed repairing of the damaged organs and the awakening of nerves and brain
waves, Katie’s body began to flinch. Although Katie did not wake up, we knew she would, it  just wasn’t her time yet. When we were done we got close to Katie and told her how much  Jesus loved her, how precious she was. Before we left the hospital we were able to go back  to the very nurse that didn’t really want to let us in and asked her could we pray for her
and was she in any physical pain. She agreed to let us pray and told us she had pain in her  back. I asked if I could come around the counter and lay my hands on her, she agreed to      this as well. She was healed from her back pain that night.
The next day, back at the ministry seminar I ran into the family from New Hampshire.  Julie shows me a Go Fund Me page that Meagan, Katie's friend, had posted. It had the  story from the prior night and how much it moved them. It had a picture of us and it said,  "Katie’s personal prayer team."  I was so excited to know that God had used us to show  them Gods love.  Julie went and brought a worship CD from the seminar and we laid our  hands and prayed over it. Meagan came and got the CD to play in Katie’s hospital room.  We had to part ways that morning and go back home. That evening as I walked in the door  of my home I received news of how big our God is! KATIE WOKE UP!!!! This was almost  exactly 24 hrs. after leaving the hospital. Not only that, but she was able to follow some
simple commands given to her and is continuing to heal! God's love and power is so overwhelming!
"He is here and HE IS ALIVE!!!"

POWER AND LOVE CONFERENCE IN ALABAMA BIRMINGHAM  (November 2015)
Jonathan Tucker, Shea Tucker, Mike Clark, Abby Clark, Neil Powers, Hannah Bass and Whit Bass attended the Power and Love Conference.  The format for this conference is the type conference where equipping is implemented by teaching then going out and implementing.  We went out on a few occasions while we were in Birmingham Alabama.  I will note a few highlights that took place.  We first went out near the convention center for lunch.  We were instructed to go out and do whatever we needed to do such as eat lunch, go to grocery store, mall, just as we would if we were living everyday life back home.  Our first outing took place near the convention center.  We encountered a lady in a wheel chair.  Mike Clark became very close to this situation.  We were able to pray with this lady for supernatural healing to be able to walk again.  She was actually attending the conference.  We did not see this miracle, yet Mike was able to minister to this lady throughout the conference in other emotional areas of her life.
Then as Mike and Abby returned back to the conference assisting this lady in the wheel chair, Hannah and I were lagging behind gathering up her guitar and binder from singing in the open outdoors.  We stopped and Hannah felt led to ask a young African American man named Mello for prayer.  She asked if he had any pain.  He responded yes, that he had some back pain.  He was a tattoo artist.  He said his pain was on a scale of about a 5 in pain.  Hannah prayed and then I followed in prayer asking for the Lord to remove all pain from his back.  After praying for Mello Hannah asked him if he had any more pain.  Mello’s surprised response was no… he was a bit shocked.  Mello had a faith in Christ already but this likely increased his faith to be bold.
Our next stop would be the Fresh Market Grocery store.  What is interesting about this stop is that Neil Powers was driving up a day later from Monroe and we were trying to coordinate a place to meet Neil.  We told Neil to meet us at the Peanut Warehouse.  On Google Maps, location showed up as a grocery store and it was the nearest location to the convention center.  So, we thought we’d try out the peanut place.  As it turned out we believe that the Lord was only delaying our time in order to align us to meet up with others that we would soon meet at Fresh Market.  We were able to sing and pray for the Cashier of the Peanut Warehouse also.  Here is the other interesting part of the equation… We typed in TARGET as our destination and as we neared TARGET we noticed a Fresh Market Grocery Store right beside TARGET.  God led us to Fresh Market.  Hannah walked in with her guitar and we weren’t sure how we would minister in a grocery store but we simply made ourselves sensitive and available.  While walking around the store Hannah made eye contact with the produce worker in the fruit department.  The worker’s name was Steve.  Steve asked Hannah to sing and play a song for him right there in the grocery store.  So Hannah did just that.  She began playing her guitar and singing right there in the produce section.  This simple act opened up the remaining doors while we were at Fresh Market.  Fresh Market turned into about an hour and ½ ministry session.  One lady came right over to where Hannah was playing and singing and began to pour her heart out about a neighbor who was struggling with drug addiction.  I immediately motioned for Abby Clark to come over and begin sharing with this lady about her situation since Abby had just completed her own rehab with Home of Grace Christian Rehab.  What an amazing connection.  But this was only the beginning.  We ended up ministering to this lady for the remaining stint of the Market visit.  Mike Clark, Abby Clark, and Neil Powers were ministering physical healing to this lady whose name was Jennifer.  Jennifer was experiencing pain in her hamstring.  She was healed of all pain.  Mike placed Abby's hands around Jennifer's hand where she was struggling with arthritis. Abby prayed for her and arthritis was completely gone. Jennifer was ecstatic!  Jennifer shared with Abby that she was deeply involved in church and ministry one time but had become very discourage to the point of pulling out completely. This event energized her to come back to her relationship with Christ.   Abby, Hannah, Whit and a young lady from Florida who jumped on board with us for this particular outing were ministering to an Asian worker at Fresh Market and we were able to lead him to pray and receive Christ as his Savior.  We later returned to Fresh Market to give this worker a bible since he said he did not own a Bible.  The manager of the store opened up about needing a church home and Steve the initial employee in the store said he could use prayer for a situation he was facing at his church as well as for his wife to find employment.
AFTER RETURNING TO THE CONFERENCE SESSION THIS SAME NIGHT
One testimony after we got to conference on the grocery store night. Todd White, one of the conference speakers, asked those needing healing to stand. The rest of the crowd laid hands on them to pray. Neil put his hand on the shoulder of 2 people in front of him. After Todd lead everyone in a prayer one of the guys turned to Neil with wide eyes and said he felt fire coming out of Neil's hand on his shoulder to his neck. Neil asked him if his neck was the problem and he said yes. He said he could still feel the pain so Neil put his hand on his neck and prayed again. After praying He said the pain was gone.
UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA BIRMINGHAM
So, the last day we ministered while attending the conference involved us going to eat lunch at Alabama Birmingham Campus.  This was a faith builder.  I asked a hotel employee where we could go and eat yet have a high volume of population to encounter.  Her advice was to go to the University.  All 7 of us walked in to the cafeteria of a college campus as complete strangers.  We sat down and ate with many eyes on us wondering who we were.  We proceeded to walk out onto the campus after we ate.  We took about 10 minutes to settle into a plan.  Hannah sat down to sing near a water fountain and then moved closer to the courtyard area near some Muslim students.  Hannah sang for about 15 minutes before it seemed that anything was happening.  Neil Powers walked up to me after I had a failed attempt of trying to minister to a Kid named “Skateboard George”.  We later found out that was how other students referred to him on campus.  George was very difficult to engage with.  He was easy to listen to but very hard to ever get any words in the conversation.  It was at this point that a strong wind blew over the campus and begin to blow the water fountain waters outside of the fountain area splashing water onto the concrete.  Neil and I prayed together that the Lord would begin ushering in His wind of Revival over this campus.  After we prayed pretty soon after, Skateboard George walks back over.  Neil noticed a group of students praying together about 30 ft. away.  After they prayed we invited them over and found out they were part of a campus ministry.  Whit and Neil had just finished praying for campus ministers and now they were standing in front of us so Mike Clark, Neil Powers and Jonathan Tucker prayed for these students.  After they prayed with these students I’m getting close to leading Skateboard George to receive Christ as Lord.  Jonathan Tucker then walks across the campus for about 100 yards to go and retrieve some of the students that they had just prayed with to come and meet Skateboard George.  So as soon as we were praying with George to receive Christ a host of students converge to welcome George into their fellowship.  The group of students gathered around George and prayed for him.  George still has many questions and I can assure you we need to pray for these campus ministry students to have Extra PATIENCE and COMPASSION for George J  Pockets of prayer was breaking out on the campus as we were leaving.  Even after Hannah finished singing she noticed someone with a frozen popsicle of Outstanding taste.  One of the girl students offered Hannah a free popsicle and so we all converged toward the popsicle stand and more prayer broke out for the popsicle stand worker as well as for the young lady who walked us over.

Hello From the Other Side

Jacob Lindsay·Sunday, November 8, 2015

Hello, Taiwan, it’s nice to finally meet. This plane touching down, this is a year and a half of praying and dreaming. This is seven months of raising support and fighting fidgeting nerves. This is three months of dedication, self-sacrifice, self-discovery, and preparation.
But, oh, wait. I’ve been here once before, haven’t I? That’s right, I’ve lived here for nine years.
Well then, Taiwan, it’s a pleasure to be back. I am as giddy as a man embarking on a first date. There’s a smile etched on my face and I’m confident stars dance in my eyes. Being back in Taiwan, I am overwhelmed by love for this nation. A team member asks me what I love so much about it, but there’s really no concrete answer. I love it all: from the people to its culture, from the maddening, gritty city streets to its sheer marble mountain walls to its fine, snow white beaches. It’s my childhood. It’s memories. It’s home.

We bathe in the city’s scents struggling to navigate our luggage through narrow, bustling streets just inches away from a visit to the hospital due to vehicles barreling down the already crowded roads. I relish every moment of it. Memories in the backroom of my heart emerge knocking dust from their shoulders. Oh, look, there’s a piece of my childhood! Hey, I understood what they said! I totally want to go back and buy some of that! Déjà vu like a freight train.
Outreach is vastly different then my preceding life in Taiwan, I discover this quickly enough. In a way it’s just a shadow of what I’ve experienced. There is no safe haven of an American home brimming with American food and culture. There is no air-conditioned room for one to escape to when the noise of the city becomes deafening. There’s no plush bed to rest my weary body as night blankets the city. There is my team and I and the pulse of a muggy, clamoring city. Indeed, outreach is a different animal entirely.
Four days in, immersed in a liquid warm coffee shop, I groan internally, my mind wards off the relentless lure of sleep. What’s the point? My thoughts murmur. There is a man before me, he tells me one story, but his eyes speak another. One of loneliness and wandering, seeking a pinprick of light that will blossom and become something worth living for. He’s worth it. A subtle prod throbs at my heart. The conversation lulls for a brief moment. “What does your father do?” An open door to share Christ? Simplicity at its finest. “Well, he’s a pastor?” The man poses questioningly, “so you’re a Christian.” It’s not a question, but a pointed statement. I nod knowingly, “Yes.” Where does the conversation go from here? He picks up the rope and tosses me an end. “So what do Christians believe?” My heart fractures with a realization that I’ve subtly known but never explicitly faced. This man has never had an opportunity to hear about Christ. And it dawns on me. This is why I am here. He’s worth it to sacrifice a few hours of sleep for.
We take to the countryside; making our bed in a home so bizarre it would be difficult to paint a picture. Spiders spindle their webs as we shower below them. Fleas and mosquitos feast on my feet, lighting it up like a Christmas tree. A few days in, my knee blows out and that night I find myself fighting back tears and seething with the same question: What’s the point? A few days later we do a kids ministry to a group of children coming from broken families. They are hilariously ecstatic. They engage in a game of “Duck, Duck, Goose” like it’s the finest thing they’ve ever had the privilege to partake in. They cling to us like monkeys as we leave. My heart swells when we say goodbye. A whisper prods at my heart. They’re worth it. They’re worth fighting through pain in my knee to demonstrate a glimpse of Christ’s vast love.
Days march on. Some days I find myself at wits end, dragging a bum leg around. Some days I’m on a couch dying with laughter with my YWAM family. Some days we’re traveling six hours just to minister to one group of children. Some days we’re traveling by subway, bus, train, and walking to make it to our next destination. Some days we’re dancing our hearts out with little children as they cling to us, grinning ear to ear. Some days I’m bent over a sink washing a seemingly endless line of dishes. Some days we’re eating the strangest foods in the midst of an Asian temple.
Some days we’re interceding for God’s heart toward his children. Regardless the circumstance, he is faithful to remind me and to show me His love. He shows me in the tears in the women’s eyes. He shows me in the calculated interest to know more following a street performance. He shows me despite my ignorance. He shows me despite my impatience. He shows me along the damp, reeking streets with a backpack straining at my muscles. He shows me as I stand beneath the stabbing cold shower. He shows me through the sad eyes of a working class man. He shows me through the toothy grin of an elderly man. He shows me in the timid smile of a child. He shows me they’re worth it. He shows me their beauty. He shows me how he loves them. He gives me a taste, a sliver of the Kingdom. It makes the sweat and tears worth it; it makes the exhaustion and hours of preparation worth it. Because Jesus thought we were worth it. So why shouldn’t they be?

Fire Starters for Christ

11/6/2015

It happened on Wednesday October 28, 2015 at 7 PM at University of
Louisiana Monroe. Jameson Alston and a leader of Fire Starters
had invited Mei Powers to come and share with their group. She did
not know what to expect as she went but she went under the
influence and power of the Holy Spirit. When she entered the room
she saw around 100 African-American students. She did not know
what she was to speak on but settled on receiving power from
the Holy Spirit. Mei was full of energy, enthusiasm for our Lord
Jesus Christ. Back in Vietnam her father was a pastor and she
preached often there. This firebrand began sharing in a powerful
way; and at one point students began to stand up. She thought to
herself I must have offended them in what I have said, but quite
the contrary they began to come down front as the Holy Spirit moved
powerfully upon them. They began to confess many different sins
asking for prayer for forgiveness and healing in Jesus name. They
began to pray for the students. Her husband Neil wondered why
hasn't my wife come home? She finally got there at around midnight.
What a wonderful testimony of the power of the Holy Spirit in one
small Vietnamese Saint.
