In the Lord's Field with Grandson by Tim Smith

As I was driving to work Thursday 12/29/16 listening to a Damon Thompson podcast the thought
occurred to me, I believe by inspiration of The Holy Spirit (Jn. 10:27), to take my twelve year old
grandson Trenton to the hospital and walk the halls praying for people. Upon this thought entering
my head I began praying in both understanding and the spirit (1Cor. 14:15) for God to guide me
through this door of opportunity. That evening Trenton and I went out to eat together chatting about
movies he’d recently been watching, how he’s doing in school and getting his Christmas weights and
bench setup for workouts. When we left the restaurant he asked why I was driving this way and I told
him that I needed him to help me with something. That’s when he began to squirm asking a lot of
questions between me formulating sixth grade level explanations and analogies for how diversity of
spiritual gifting’s are complementary when brought together (Rom. 12:5) to operate in God’s Kingdom
purposes and how he and I are not only Grandfather and Grandson, but also Brothers in Christ. All this
being seasoned by his retorts of how he had his ‘time planned out’ and ‘yea Papa but you’re not telling
me anything about what we’re doing yet’ and ‘I know you Papa and I’m getting nervous and my stomach is starting to knot up’ and other stuff like that. Normal twelve year old boy mental switchgear chattering in an attempt to throw sand into the gear-mesh…that’s what I’m thinking anyway. Since timing seemed to be his jugular issue I agreed we would leave after praying for the third person (three in biblical numerology signifies completion or perfection, and unity). So Praise be to God we get into the hospital lobby and after Trenton’s second restroom visit, Brothers Gary Lively and James Morris join us. Gary and James both encouraged Trenton with assurance that he would witness God’s hand at work through His servant’s prayers. Brother Gary prayed over us all before hitting the halls and we asked Trenton to pray silently while our prayers were being verbalized over others. Trenton accompanied our prayers and as agreed after we had prayed for the third person we left. When we got home Trenton excitedly told his Granny that we had been to the hospital praying for people and that he felt good about doing so! What a privilege to experience the exhilaration of joining God on adventure in His Fields of Harvest with my Grandson and looking forward to our next field trip with Jesus!
