I am writing this note to share some thoughts on my heart with you all.
Suzanne and I are at a point of transition and/or needing a transition. We have been in Redding for almost 10 years and our last child is graduating high school this year.
We are ready for a change..
For several years, it has been on my heart (and Suzanne’s heart to some extent) to start a ‘church’ or a fellowship. I even dreamed a couple of times (many years ago) about our home being filled with people of all ages. I would like to think of it as a Church without Walls, more like family, more like a house church. I have pondered this for a very long time.
Bethel is an amazing church and to be honest it seems a little foolish to even consider starting something like that here, but the thought keeps knocking at my heart.
Many of you, our life group family, are deeply involved in Bethel and I don’t want to be a detractor from that. This is not about Bethel, but about the vision of my heart.
I am a pastor and a teacher. Leading Family Life Group has been amazing, but my opportunities to pastor and teach are limited in a life group setting. I need a transition and I need opportunity, a paying job and growth. And Suzanne needs to quit working full-time nights.
I am writing to get your input or if you have a word from God.
IS THERE PLACE IN REDDING FOR US TO START A HOME CHURCH GROUP with you guys? Or is this the end of a season?
I am writing to see if any of you have an interest in being part of starting a home fellowship church if we felt God leading.
I will be fasting and praying regarding this during the week. If God doesn’t speak clearly that we should stay, then we will start looking for other opportunities - closer to our families or back overseas (or if God provides something for me in Redding, we could continue life group)
This is a challenging situation for me personally. I honestly have a vision of church being a family and that you don’t walk away from family. I take Family Life Group seriously, so leaving, if that is how God leads is not a careless casual thing. It would be heartbreaking.
Thank you for your prayers and words.
No matter what happens, we plan to continue having life group until we relocate (if that happens) Not sure about after that. Interesting that almost half or more than half of the people who attend our Zoom meetings are not even living in Redding any more. :)
By His grace and mercy,
