I once met with a man named Stephen. Prior to his born again experience, he had been active in the practice of wiccan witchcraft, and the Lord beautifully transformed his life into a new creation set after Him. Like many young Christians, however, Stephen had much to contend with and learn in life with regard to his finances, insecurities, job focus, relationships, etc. One day when meditating, the Holy Spirit placed it in my mind to give a certain amount of money to Stephen. When receiving this impression, I immediately wrestled with the idea and argued, “But Lord, Stephen does not manage his money well. Wouldn’t this be poor stewardship on my part to just give it to him?” The impression back was, “That is my business. As for you, I am calling for you to do this in obedience to ME.” My response was obedience to what I believed the Lord was commanding me. A couple of days later, I ran into Stephen. I noticed that he was sitting outside by himself. I came up to him asking him how he was doing. With sadness, he looked up at me and told me candidly, “Well, to be quite honest with you, I was just over at the top of the Jackson Street bridge contemplating jumping off of it.” He said, “Andy, my life is a wreck….my finances, situation…everything!” Being moved with compassion, I handed him the money and told him that this money was a gift from the Lord Jesus Christ who loves him with a great passion. I told him, “Jesus loves you greatly, and I love you.” When looking at the amount, he looked stunned and looked up at me very moved. He said, “Andy, you will not believe this, but when I was praying about my finances, I expressed to the Lord that this exact amount was what I needed.” On this day, Stephen experienced God.
