“But as many as received him, to them he gave power to become the sons of God,
even to them that believe on his name” John 1:12
One evening while studying the Bible, a verse in the New Testament jumped out at me.
I recall that the verse had nothing to do with anything that I was pondering or living out
at the time. It was a verse that spoke of Jesus in a historical manner, but not in some
deep, profound way. I recall just treasuring this in my heart and later going to sleep. The
next day as I was leaving from work, I get a text from a friend who was witnessing to
someone. This friend said that he did not know where to go in his witness with this man,
and he asked if I had time to join them. I did. As I joined them, I noticed that the man
being witnessed to was surrounded by a table of young, impressionable Christian believers.
I also noticed that the man was controlling the conversation striving to bring much doubt
into the validity of Jesus and the Bible. I kept quiet until he challenged a historical record
of Jesus asking everyone for answers. Guess what….I had the exact answer, and it was
that same word from the previous night. He then asked me if I was a minister. After a brief
conversation, I got up and left knowing that the mission was accomplished. The written and
breathed Word of God is extremely powerful. I am grateful to be of service.
In Christ,
