Testimony from Tim Smith

Recently I worked eleven consecutive days on temporary project management assignment at a new power plant in St Charles Parish. During that time I worked with a group of men all whom spoke Spanish, a few also speaking varying degrees of English. Gabriel and Daniel Arevalo and Americo Montoya from Mexico, Gabriel from LeCeiba Honduras, Younix and Jorge from Cuba and others. Frequently I would greet them in the mornings with sayings like, the heavens declare the glory of the Lord, looking toward the sunrise. The Earth displays my God’s master craftsmanship gazing into the nearby tree line. They would ask me things like, what Church I attend, to which I would reply something like those who look to Christ Jesus as their King, acknowledging Him as God in the flesh Who took their sin death penalty for them, rising from the dead confirming His Diety have His Spirit tabernacling within them...we are the Church! Over that short period of time we shared experiences together discovering commonality between us and leveraging our differences, eliciting creative ideas and solutions to the hazards and technical challenges of the workplace. On the morning of my last day I shook each man’s hand looking them in the eye with respect and requested permission to speak a prayer of blessing over their’s and their families lives to which they consented. As I stood in their midst, removing my hard hat and extending my hands toward them with their heads bowed, I could hear heckling from nearby men in other contract work groups standing around their gang-boxes. None in our group acknowledged their ridicule.
As Christ professing followers, by what metric shall we gauge our pilgrimage through the earth or conformity to the world’s standards?

Philippians 2:14-16
Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.
